I just got back from my CISV meeting, and today we were picking up garbage, YEAH GARBAGE!!!
. But we didn’t really find that much, which is good I guess, although it wasn’t very satisfying. It was nice walking out in the park though, it was very green, saw a couple of birds, and a lot of flowers (although I forgot to bring my wild edibles book, drat). For those of you who don’t know, CISV is an international organization devoted to achieving world peace through global friendship. It has once been said that CISV puts the cult in culture, which is totally true, our meetings can be a little weird, especially after snack (ask in the comments
). The relationships developed through CISV are very deep, as only a relationship that comes from living together with someone can be. CISV is one of the main parts of my social life, which is, I know, kind of pathetic, but still, it is a great community. CISV helps me develop the sense of community which I know is necessary for a more human way of life. CISV Canada’s website is here, CISV USA here, and CISV international here.
The other way CISV relates to this site is that I am currently leading a green project with them called Enough Hot Air, about what we can actually do about environmental issues. Enough Hot Air is a mosaic project, which is CISV’s way to give back to the community, impact as many people as possible, and help to change the world. We are planning a start-up event in September where we challenge people to do x-number of things, and then we are planning to sell cloth tote bags made by us, with fluorescent light bulbs, and give away brochures with information on them. It is pretty small, I know, but starts are good, and every little bit helps. Baby steps. But I took the first baby step today by making the prototype tote bag to see if we could do it and it wasn’t that hard, although it was a little tedious, and our sewing machine isn’t all that good. So, that’s the start of my environmental journey, well at least the public journey, the first of my baby steps.
